However much she tried to convince herself that she should disregard it, Mya' developed an incredible urge to travel. She wasn't sure when it had been conceived - perhaps right after the successful sponsorship of Jos-see, or perhaps some time after that. Perhaps it had been struggling to get out of her all along, and now Mya' found it difficult to ignore.
And one morning, shortly after awakening, she snapped.
Jos-see, she urged. We need to get out of here.
Jos-see was her usual pleasant self that morning. Why? Are they finally coming to take you away?
Mya' was not pleased. You know what I mean.
Actually, I don't. Jos-see tossed her head arrogantly and looked at her caretaker. And you know how much interplanetary travel ruins my looks, if that's what you're getting at.
Sorry, Jos'. Mya' always enjoyed some mild torment of her charge. It helped her tolerate her snarkiness. I was thinking I'd like to get back on-topic with what I was doing originally before I got sidetracked. And I am so tired of looking out a window and seeing the same freaking stars.
Jos-see cocked her head in a subtle but still noticeable manner. You mean that I'm a result of your own short attention span?
Mya' considered this. Pretty much.
And you're not happy with even my pretty face? Jos-see peered into the mirror in their quarters. What a ridiculous thought! Everyone knows I'm a beauty, and they're not afraid to...
Shut it, Jos-see, Mya' cut her off. I'm trying to get a point across here.
Jos-see fanned her red-marked black wings and yawned regally. Yes, yes. Carry on.
Mya' had to count to ten very slowly in her head before replying.
I came here to sponsor you because I was drawn into it. She'd never admit that it was a photo of one of her look-alike siblings that was the cause of this - Jos-see didn't need to be any more full of herself. My sister had originally suggested that we get out more. And she meant that we should bond.
Now who would want to bond you? Jos-see gave a mock thoughtful expression. Continue.
Normally I wouldn't want to go through any more of this interstellar teleportation idiocy. But I've been feeling like Quavy' might have had a point when she said it would be a good experience. Just don't tell her I said that.
Don't worry. I will.
Mya' counted to ten again.
I need to get out of here. I cannot stand being cooped up in a space station - much less with you - any longer. I'm about to go insane.
You've been saying that since the day I met you, Jos-see chuckled. But I suppose I could go out of my way for this teensy favour of yours. Where is this place we will be departing for?
Mya' felt relieved (although, even if her charge had disagreed on this, Mya' felt so uptight she would have literally dragged Jos-see along). I've been thinking that there's a place that will suit me well... a place called the Citadel of Shadows. And if my memory serves me correctly, the little brats hatching are your half-siblings.
WHAT? Jos-see spluttered. Please say you're not signing me up too...
There's a spot waiting for you right at the top of the list.
You are one hell of an idiot, my friend.
It's my job. Besides, bonding'll do you good. If I can come to this stupid confined space station, sponsor a brat like you, and live to tell the tale... well, I'll probably not die bonding. You won't either. (Although I wouldn't mind if you did.)
Jos-see grumbled as the pair departed their temporary quarters for good.
(And bonding will keep you out from under my skin,) Mya' added to herself triumphantly as she escorted Jos-see away.
