FARALASSITH: LONELINESS REMEDIED

Faralassith wasn’t lonely by nature, she was actually quite cheerful for a dragon who hadn’t bonded at hatching and spent quite some time alone since then. Lately, though, she had been feeling the odd pang of loneliness that some abandoneds came across. She decided, for her own sake, to do some travelling. That, after all, could be a soothing thing. Vacation was essential, even to dragons - especially those who were unbonded, yet lived around many other bonded dragons.

So she took the opportunity one day when the sky was gray - a simple, yet effective, motivation for the female blue to get away from it all. She thought for a minute about where her first destination would be, and finally decided on Lantessama Isle. That glowing green dragon Gaith... she liked him, and though merely as a friend, she figured that there would be more where he came from.

She went, and after her short journey through between - or the Elsewhere, as Lantessamans called it - she was there. The three huge mountain peaks stretched into the sky around her, and Faralassith noted their very lush and green appearance, despite their height.

As she closed in on the Dragonry, and saw the sand of the beaches, dunes and dragon nests, Faralassith took note of a different area of the Isle. It seemed to have a sad sort of air about it, and while Fara’ normally would have avoided such a place, she was intrigued, and banked in towards it.

Her wings unfurled just before she touched down, stirring up dust and slowing her down. She was in a very uncomfortable environment - and she gasped as she learned why.

Dragons.

Every one of them abandoned.

Fara’ was shocked. She had thought that being unbonded at hatching was painful - but the pain in these dragons was almost unbearable. She couldn’t hear their voices but she did hear mutterings, and she felt pulses of anguish.

Four small dragons caught her attention, and while Fara’ would have liked to save them all from this horrible fate, she seemed directed to these, and approached them with caution. They were all shades of blue and purple, with leaflike decorations. They were small - not much larger than a hatchling, each - but Fara’ loved them.

Well, said a voice - calm and feminine. Hello... I would welcome you, but I know you find this place unwelcoming. You seem tense.

I’m all right, Fara’ acknowledged her, bowing slightly to the four. I should introduce myself... my name’s Faralassith, but call me Fara’.

Well met, said another, dark blue dragoness, bowing back to her visitor. I’ll introduce you to us... the Prune is Kari, the Raspberry is Mill, the Grape is Bachan. And I am Ara.

Thank you. But I am wondering... why are you here? It is so desolate for cheerful dragons such as you.

We were abandoned, Mill replied, shaking his pink-purple head back and forth. They told us there would always be room, but apparently not.

That’s horrible, Fara’ cried. Can I do anything to help you?

We seek a bond - all four of us, Kari said, smiling.

We’d be the goodest dragons ever! Bachan laughed, spinning in circles.

And we were wondering...

...if there was one who would always have room for us...

...in space and in heart.

Fara’ blinked, as the reality came to her at last, and the dragons spoke in union.

Will you be our bonded, Faralassith?

She needed not to think about it even for a second; the answer had been in her mind all along: Yes.
