CORDULATH - EMERGING

Quiet Cordulath, without a bonded since her hatching, made quite a few travels in her days, and came across quite a few things of interest. She had seen firelizards hatch, though none found her and bonded her. She had seen Hatchings, and they so reminded her of her own that she felt as if she could cry. During her travels, Cordulath remained unnoticed, as if she were a wisp of cloud, not even visible to most.

Sometimes she'd wonder if she had a rightful bond out there somewhere, even if he or she wasn't human. When she went to some places where they had abandoned dragons, she shared her comforts with them, but never really thought about trying to bond one of them. Her mind was busy that one day, though, when she went to Draco's Inferno Weyr. She had been to many Weyrs but never this one, and she wondered silently why.

It was built in a crater, it seemed, with many surrounding forests and mountain ranges as well as tundra which looked more barren than the other landscapes. As Cordulath flew in for a closer, but not too close, look, she saw many people and dragons below, so far away that they looked like small bugs.

Sort of like me, almost, she muttered jokingly to herself, thinking of her "invisible" self.

She decided that the Weyr would accept her to visit, so she flew in and touched down softly away from the multitude of people and dragons. She recognized one dragon, a gold, which looked remarkably like one of the unbondeds, Ikaeth. Soon she recalled that Ikaeth's twin lived here. That must be her, she thought silently as she continued on, her wings folded.

It wasn't common for Cordulath to mingle with the people and dragons but she did this once, because a dark cavern at the foot of the Weyr caught her eye. Something made her walk towards it. It was ominous looking, but she inwardly didn't care. The opening was just big enough for a dragon to squeeze through, and with her small size, Cordulath slipped into the darkness.

Another presence alerted Cordulath. Who's there? She asked, though she believed the presence was friendly.

Something surprised her just then. A small green dragon, a little brighter-coloured than her, cautiously stepped forward, just enough to have her outline framed in the sliver of light that was still there.

Cordulath didn't know what to do, but the green touched her mind and sighed, letting Cordulath know that she was there because her rider was gone. In reply, Cordulath didn't speak, but nodded her head.

The green dragon sent an image into Cordulath's mind, of a person, a human, a female, her rider. But not anymore. She'd left her there to die, and now she just waited her for her rider to return. She'd not seen the light of day since today, but she just wanted to hide from the humans. Cordulath opened her eyes and found herself broken inside. She'd endured such pain, and Cordulath wanted to take it from her, make it her own, so this dragon wouldn't have to suffer.

She felt a warm nose touch hers, and the green had collapsed on the ground near her. The green's pain had been unbearable, but she had hope. She had hope for a new bond, who wouldn't abandon her again. She didn't want her rider's carelessness to affect her anymore.

Do you wish for me to do that? Cordulath asked cautiously, not knowing what the dragon next to her would reply, if anything.

The dragon nodded her small head tentatively, her eyes touched with a happier tone of sky blue. Cordulath sent her a smile in her mind, and the dragon seemed quite happy.

Would you like to come into the light? asked Cordulath.

The dragon stood and nodded again. Cordulath did the same and began to walk out into the sunshine. It was golden and bright and almost blinded her, but she was glad to find herself in the sun again. She looked behind her and the other green stood there, blinking, for a while until she finally seemed to adjust to the brightness.

Cordulath knew the green wasn't ready to speak just yet. It would take time for a real bond to form between them, to seal the rift created by her old rider...
